You shook me all night Long originally appeared in 1980 on AC/DC’s most successful album, Back in Black, and the words and music are by band members Angus Young, Malcolm Young, and Brian Johnson. In the song, lead vocalist Brian Johnson tells the story of a night with a beautiful woman.
Guitar World magazine has the song at number 80 on their list of the 100 greatest guitar solos. It is hardly surprising that guitar enthusiasts look for the Shook Me All Night Long tab so they can play the song themselves, on their own instruments.
You Shook Me All Night Long is a staple of AC/DC concerts and is almost never excluded from the set lists. It was rereleased internationally in 1986 with a live ’83 version of it as a B-side on the 12-inch maxi single only. The other officially released live versions of the song are found on AC/DC’s album Live and the soundtrack to Howard Stern’s movie Private Parts. Perhaps another reason why the Shook Me All Night Long tab continues to be popular with musicians in many parts of the world is that it was performed by AC/DC on the TV show Saturday Night Live in 2000.
The music videos for this song are undoubtedly another aspect of why people are interested in the Shook Me All Night Long tab or instrumental notation. The first version of the music video, directed by Eric Dionysus and Eric Mistler, is similar to the music videos for other songs from Back in Black. It is found on Back in Black, The Videos, which is a special you can get when you buy a recent Back in Black album, as well as on AC/DC’s Backtracks box set.
The second and more notorious music video was directed by David Mallet, and it includes shots of former Hill’s Angel and Page Three girl Corinne Russell on a mechanical bull while, in the background, other women clad in skimpy leather outfits pedal bicycle-like machines. The band has gone on record that the goal of this video was to be as politically incorrect as possible, although a censored version of the video, without the controversial shots of the women, was also made.
You will not have much difficulty if you want to find a Shook Me All Night Long tab on the Internet. A large number of Web sites provide tablature for the song, including the Guitar World site.
